Train a child in the way they should go; when they grow old, they won't depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
At Southside UMC, we believe in teaching our children as early as possible the good news of the gospel, how to pray & read their Bibles, and to love Jesus. We also believe that children should have fun as they learn! Therefore, for both Sunday School (9am) and Wednesday "Kids for Christ" (6:30pm), we plan lessons that are hands-on, engagin and age-appropriate for children ages 3 to 5th grade. Prayers are either led by the kids or the kids pray along with the teacher. Kids interact with their Bible by looking up the story of the day and then taking turns reading it. To make the story come alive, the teachers lead the children in drama, games, and/or crafts that coordinate with the lesson. No matter if we're learning about Noah, Daniel, Mary or Jesus, we always have a good time learning about God & His love for us!
We would love to have your children join us anytime for:
*Sunday School at 9:00am, led by Christine Cashman, and/or
*Wednesday "Kids for Christ" at 6:30pm (August - May only), led by Clay & Jackie Hood.
We also want our children to feel comfortable and connected during Sunday morning worship, therefore, the Children's Council always plans a special "Children's Minute" just for them. Various church volunteers plan a short child-friendly lesson coordinated with the sermon, then the children circle up to lead the congregation in the Lord's Prayer. Our hope is that through this, they will begin learning to be the "hands & feet of Christ."
Every year, our Children's Ministry holds special events for the children of our church and the community. Some of these events include the Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, and Fall Fest.
